  • Dual RO Membranes

I was browsing the forums and ran across this from another manufacturer of systems. Claims are with relatively decent pressure you are able to achieve a waste to product ratio of about 1.5 to 1. Insufficient pressure and its just a waste of money, thoughts?

Sorry I didn't reply earlier - for some reason I didn't get an email notice you had posted here.

You can get a lower waste to permeate ratio with any membrane - that ratio is controlled by your flow restrictor.

If you plumb two membranes in series (waste from the first feeding the second), they act as a single long membrane.

Can you put in a flow retrictor that gives you a 3:1? 2:1? 1:1? 0:1?
    Sure.

    Should you?
Only if you are willing to shorten the useful life of the membrane(s).

Then that would be a no.

And along those same lines, you'll sometimes hear people say that adding a booster pump is a good way to reduce waste water...

Well, again, not really. If you jack up the feedwater pressure (which is a good thing to do), you still want to maintain an approximate 4:1 wasteermeate ratio.

Russ, so if you add a booster pump do you need to change your restrictor also to maintain the 4:1 ratio

That would be appropriate - though few people do.
