        • Something happened to stress the animal. If its been in the same place all this time, They like dirty dirty water, but I am not convinced reducing nitrates to 50 made it leave its post.

If the theory is the water is now clearer and the light is effecting it, try turning down the lights for a bit and see what happens.

Did you change flow patterns in the tank? Feeding patterns? Do you or have you recently fed it?

Has it reduced in size by a large percentage?

With freshly glued plastics added to the system, were they cleaned well? Are you or have you recently changed carbon to pull out any crap that may have been added when you installed your new algae scrubber?
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

          • No change in flow, and no recent changes in feeding although I haven't fed it recently but I see it usually gets some food indirectly since I feed near it.
Has reduced in size a small amount.
ATS was cleaned well before put online and I've been dosing vodka/vinegar for about 8weeks or so now.

              • What are your thoughts early on?

Have you seen a reduction in nitrates?

                • It's zero maintenance as of now. The algae on it is being left to have green algae grow over it eventually. Hopefully rather soon, it is still early in the states tho.
I have seen a reduction in nitrates, but could be a number of factors here, vodka/vinegar dosing, cut back on feedings for now, improved skimmer performance, as well as the ATS. However I am being told that any algae growing on it is using nutrients to grow so it is having an impact on nitrates. Once it gets thick and green tho, that is where they work best I've heard.

                  • Just take it out and clean it off before the underneath layers die and release the nutrients back. Lookin sweet dude. Gettin pumped

                            • I don't see that happening! I've been reading up on them though and there seems to be some advantages with the way fish behave vs rectangular tanks. Since my in wall is kaput, I wouldn't mind something with a lot of sump room, either. Need any stock tanks?
