  • MY LEDs

I built 3 LED fixtures around March 2010 to replace my 3 400 MHs

    I started with
    Heatsinks: 3 10.080 x 14" Heatsinks from heatsinkusa.com - $180.07 Shipped

LEDS: 4 x 24 CREE LED kits which include the following items in each kit:
    12 x XP-G R5 Cool White LEDs
    12 x XR-E Royal Blue LEDs
12 lenses for the XR-E LEDs - 60 Degree lenses
    1 x LPC-35-700 driver for the XR-E's
    1 x LPC-60-1050 driver for the XP-G's
    2 Power Cords
    4 Wire Nuts
    $980 shipped

    Parts used:
Drill Bits: #30 for LED screws, 11/64" for Fan holders, 17/64" for Hangers
    Screws are a Self Drilling Phillips 6-20 x 1/2
Washers are a number 6 nylon.
22 Gauge wire from Radio Shack
    Thermal Compound from Radio Shack

On Tuesday I added 24 more Blue LEDs
    I ordered them from rapidLED.com
    I added
24 - CREE XP-E Royal Blue 3W with 55 degree optics - $170 shipped (Prices have come down alot)
and all 48 White LEDs got 65 Degree Optics added.

    So in total I have
    48 - CREE XP-G R5 Cool White 3W with 65 degree optics
    48 - CREE XR-E Royal Blue 3W with 60 degree optics
    24 - CREE XP-E Royal Blue 3W with 55 degree optics

I have 3 fixtures split the following way:
    16 - CREE XP-G R5 Cool White 3W with 65 degree optics
    16 - CREE XR-E Royal Blue 3W with 60 degree optics
    8 - CREE XP-E Royal Blue 3W with 55 degree optics

    All ran by timers

    Par reading as follows:
    150-160 Sand
400-500 Top Rock depending on the side of the tank you are checking.

I also have 2 boostLEDs PARs with 3 Red and 2 white LEDs

Each Heatsink has an IceCap variable speed fan on it.

Full 375 Gallon SPS tank shot with all LEDs on:

over 1.5 years and the color and grow is awesome. The corals so far have been better than all my years with the MHs.
